JD1 - online instrument - melissa hamonic

The concept for my instrument is as follows:

I sampled different snippets of my father talking, the instrument will be a sliced image of him that plays different sound bytes as you pass over individual sections of the image. The idea is to bring my father's voice back into real-time, as the combination of words changes depending on how you scroll over the image.

An excellent concept - I'm really partial to the instruments that involve an intimate person and the human voice. It's like taking a person's conversation and bringing it into a different sort of perception of time. As you can see from our workshop friday, it will be difficult to control the things he has to say, and might sound as if he's speaking on top of himself. But this could be an interesting and evocative effect. I love the image and the way you've sliced it up - so your father's face is turned into a kind of piano. Nice colour tonalities. Good work.
