Efehan Elbi's creature feature 'instrument' proposal.

Hi Judith, I just got my idea now.

I'm going to make a few little flash creatures that can either be clicked on or left alone. With some light scripting, the little guys will talk to each other (their 'question' sounds will have a couple of different 'answer' sounds assigned to each) and if the user wants, they can click the creatures to inspire more talk.

The randomizing will make sure that the talking isn't the same twice (or it might be, but I hope that won't happen).

Each little creature should have its own audio personality.

Judith's class from Karen (transportation)

Hi all, for my flash assignment I am going to make an online musical instrument by using the sound of different transportaion, such as the subway, bus and car. We are living in a big city, transportation is very important in our daily life, we can't go anywhere without them, but because we are so use to it, sometime we ignor the sound/noise they made, I want this project to explore the sound/nocie they've made, you will be impress by how you ignor those noise pollution

Simone Jones - Joe Song - Organic LP(Touch Switch)

Here we have it.
Honestly the circuit ws much easier than the wood part.
Originally I wanted to make a hypnotizer but figured that I had to invest a whole lot of money with molding and whatnot.
Then one day I was listening to The Roots, Frank Sinatra along with a couple of Jay-Z songs that I decided to make a wooden LP Player.
I tried to make it look like something from summer camp hence the reason why it looks so darn primitive and clunky and ...woody.
The circuits are partly visible here on the photo but they are supposed to be hidden udnerneath and the switch is pre-wired so that only by touching the red battery line you can let this thing whirl.
If I had more time I would have installed the wires insde the hand and make the surface of the disk metal so that it can spin when the needle touches the disk surface.
Aside from that I had fun making this heap of wood I call art and thank any of you who helped me with the circuit.

Simone (2nd workshop) - alarm

For my electronics project, I created a sort of alarm. It consists of: an old rotary phone, a touch switch, a portable cd player and recording of sirens, speakers, and a rotating flashing red police light. When you pick up the phone, the touch switch is activated, the light goes on and you hear sirens. When you hang up, it stops.

activated alarm

I was inspired to make this piece after my roommate called 911 at 4am one night recently after we were awoken by some unusual, loud noises. The police came to our house and searched it for burglars. They found nothing; we now have reason to believe it was raccoons in our attic. The incident had a large effect on me for some reason, so I decided to make some art about it. When I was making it, I was thinking about issues of security and the invasion of private space, as well as the intimidating nature of alarms. I find it interesting how these safety measures can often be just as frightening as the threat that they are protecting you against.

I envision this project as an installation; I would like to have the phone on some sort of pedestal, in an empty room. The room would be dark except for a spotlight on the phone. All of the other components of the alarm would be hidden in the darkness. When the participant entered the room, the phone would ring, encouraging them to pick it up. When they did, the light and sirens would turn on.

For Geoffery-DOG

This is a summary of what I did for my project in Geoffery's class.
In my project, first i set up a camera in my house to look at what is my dog doing while nobody is at home and i take my own camera and using his perspective to pretend what did he do while no one is at home. I also make this video in black and white because I know that dog is colour blind, so i want to creat the vision of what the dog will see.

Blog, Blog, Blog

I was inspired by the feeling of surprise that happens when you watch some of Zbig Rybczynski's videos. I started with wanting to surprise the audience and planned on concieving some technical camera trick as my video. But while walking my dog in one of the many fake spring days we've had I saw a spot in the feild where there was no snow to the left and tons of snow to the right. So I shot it, and added ambient sound fxs so it sounded like summer on one side and winter on the other. Surprise!

FOR GEOFFREY

so i made this paper animation for my first class, a really long time ago.

and since the weather was really bad, our class was cancelled.

and so as i recently found out yesterday, this didn't get through to geoffrey's email but i did send it on the day that it was due and it was very on time, ask anyone (well, mike or dennis).

so geoffrey asked me to post it on here.

this is my paper animation i made. originally i wanted to do a hand drawn animation since i never did it before. originally my concept was to have things form into other things, generally random ideas the viewer wouldn't pressume right away.

unfortunately, i am still really bad at hand drawn animation, so instead i decided to cut out my drawings, and use the same concept (things forming into other things).

really really deep.

FOR SIMONE! - The Box That Desires Attention.

I made a box that wants you to stroke it. It is covered in fake fur to make it sort of "cute" and animalistic. The box also has an egg and a spinning [weight on stick to smash the egg]. If you do not stroke the box within its count to 500 the smasher spins and breaks the egg.
This is sort of a one time only piece, ideally set up with a huge timer and flashing lights to warn you that the egg will soon be smashed. Sort of like in lost...
OH NOES I AM STEALING BANDWIDTH!
Once the egg is smashed the piece is ended. Over. Done.

I made this using a Basic Stamp 2 and a photoresistor, as well as the motor-with-smasher. The basic stamp counts up to 500 and if it gets there, pin 5 controlling the motor goes high and the motor spins (oh no! the egg is broken!). HOWEVER. If someone strokes the box the photoresistor tells the stamp that it is being covered up and so the count to 500 resets to ZERO (the egg shall live to see another day).

Simone's Section - Melissa Hamonic, Adrienne Coffey, Aaron Manchick

For out collaborative project Aaron, Adrienne and I decided to create a Paul Klee inspired music box. We bought a commercialized music box and stripped away it's original contents. We then rebuilt it in a Paul Klee style and replaced the character with a sculptural one. We also added a light and a sculpture that rotates on a 9V motor operated by an on/off switch. While the music plays, and the motor rotates - an irony is created by the lullaby melody clashing with the mechanized lull of the motor.

jd2- you need it to live

ok well basically my idea is to make an instrument that has mainly water noises, i am talking about dripping and pouring with different velocities. Also i can do some slapping or drumming on water and make a beat our of that, these noises will go off of course when you scroll over a button, i am not positive what image i want to use yet, i am thinking something like just a picture of water and maybe the buttons would be invisible but you just sort of roll the mouse anywhere on the screen as you feel it and the noises will go.

also i think i want to have some other noises in the background that dont fit with water, like my friends cat tiger he makes some nice pur sounds sometimes, i think would go good with water

i wanna make a relaxing insturment so you can put some head phones on and move the mouse around and feel all calm right away

JD2 musical instrument

yo.
i havent lately decided to take on a positive attitude towards living with 3 younger sisters. insted viewing their screaming and whining as annoying i will insted use them in my musical instrument where they will be transformed into beautiful music. as upoke them with various tools/toys etc they will emit different pitched screams..whines etc which can be used to compose music. i hope to make the eyes move with the draggable items. when the subject is touched by the item a sound will come out.
